The University of Sharjah aims to fulfill its obligations and responsibilities towards its students; add to human knowledge and scientific research; meet the needs of society; and enhance higher education in the country in coordination with other institutions of higher learning.
The establishment of Ajman University College of Science and Technology (AUCST) came as a response to the importance His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al-Nahayan, the President of the United Arab Emirates, attaches to Higher Education and particularly to Science and Technology. In fact it can be regarded as an embodiment of His Highness directives to expand this type of education in order to graduate qualified people capable of meeting the needs of the country’s ambitious development plans.
Being aware of this policy, and in order to assist the country’s development, His Highness Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al-Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman issued on the 3rd of Dhil Al Qi’dah 1408 A.H. corresponding to 17-6-1988 the Emiri Decree establishing AUCST. His Highness is the patron of this University College, which assumes its share of responsibility in social development.
American University of Sharjah (AUS) was founded in 1997 by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council of the UAE and Ruler of Sharjah, who envisioned the university as a leading educational institution in the Gulf region. American University of Sharjah is an independent, not-for-profit coeducational institution. Although consciously based on upon American institutions of higher education, AUS is also expected to be thoroughly grounded in Arab culture and to be part of a larger process of the revitalization of intellectual life in the Middle East. AUS is emerging as a leading comprehensive coeducational university in the Gulf, serving students from the region and around the world.
