Ajman is the smallest emirate of the United Arab Emirates; its total area amounts to just two hundred sixty square kilometers. Ajman is also the capital city of the Ajman emirate.
The emirate of Ajman is situated on the Persian Gulf. Two tiny inland enclaves, Manama and Masfut, are controlled by Ajman. They are primarily used for agricultural purposes.
Ajman boasts a population of approximately 235,000, the vast majority of which reside in the capital. This makes Ajman one of the fastest growing emirates in the country, as in the year 1980, the population consisted of only about 36,100. Throughout the last two decades, however, people from neighboring emirates as well as foreign countries have moved in to the area.
Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi currently rules the Ajman emirate. Thanks to the work of the Crown Prince, Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Ajman has experienced much economic growth in recent years, and there has been a major boom in construction.
Also in recent years, tourists have begun flocking to Ajman in droves to sop up its historical architecture, not to mention its sandy beaches. Residents of neighboring Dubai and Abu Dhabi enjoy coming here for vacation, as well.
Shopaholics also find satisfaction in Ajman city, particularly at the Ajman souk, as well as the Ajman City Center.
In recent years, the development of the Ajman Free Zone has provided an impetus for entrepreneurs with an interest in the United Arab Emirates. It has seen the development of numerous industrial and corporate projects within Ajman in the last decade. The Ajman Free Zone’s intention is to highlight the business activities of the region in providing a liberal environment for international companies to do business in. What is more, the Ajman Free Zone devotes much attention to smaller and medium sized businesses, promoting trade, international commerce, and industrial related activities.
Like other Free Zones, the Ajman Free Zone is a cost efficient choice for foreign investors, while also offering them a massive amount of stability, including the option of taking out a twenty-year lease. Thanks to these measures, the size of the Ajman Free Zone has quadrupled in recent years.
